If you love the sound of the Big Bands we would love you to join us.
We are a friendly and welcoming group of enthusiasts who appreciate and enjoy the great sounds of the Big Swing Bands and the Great American songbook. Whether it’s Basie, Ellington or Goodman, Ella, Frank or Nat King Cole, Beiderbecke, Shearing or the Dorseys, or your own particular favourite artist, we play recordings on high quality equipment to meet every taste - sometimes including non-commercial recordings featuring some members who are themselves jazz musicians who have played with big bands.
We get together every third Thursday of the month in the Ellen Pettit Memorial Hall, 2 High Street, Woburn Sands (next to the Swan Inn). See the 'Find Us' page for a map. It costs just £5.00 a year for membership and £2.00 each time you come, which includes tea or coffee and biscuits (£3 guests). Check our current programme of presentations and the starting time on the DIARY page.
Come and join us without obligation to join so you can see if you enjoy the music and the presentations by musicians and fellow members. Meet and socialise with others who share your enthusiasm for the great music and songs of the Big Swing Band era.

CHANGE TO PROGRAMME
John Watson - "Great drummers make music swing"
John is a renowned drummer, having played for the Pasadena Roof orchestra and the Chris Barber band in a career that has spanned six decades. He will be demonstrating the various techniques used and talk about Krupa, Rich, McKinley, etc.
David Higgs – "A Selection from my (extensive) Library"
Whether this will be the final meeting will be made based on the attendance on this meeting.
Sadly the attendance has been dropping at meetings resulting in a lost being made on the meeting costs.
Unfortunately, I have to announce that the Society will have to close down, maybe before the end of the year. We shall make a judgement after the September meeting. This was a unanimous decision by the committee and, I think, those few attending the AGM understood the reasons why. The Society has been running since 2007 and this is ten years longer than our founder Chairman Rex Harris anticipated. We have previously managed to continue due to the hard work of many members.
